The Muslim Students Association of the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (EBKUST Muslim Jamaat) Makeni Campus, successfully hosted its first-ever Inter-Faculty Quranic Memorisation Competition on Saturday, 4th July 2026, bringing together students from various faculties in a celebration of faith, knowledge, and devotion to the Holy Quran.
Delivering the keynote address, renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Hillah Amin Turay encouraged participants to remain committed to memorising the Holy Quran, describing it as a path to honour and elevation both in this world and in the Hereafter.
He commended the EBKUST Muslim Jamaat for remaining steadfast in promoting Islam on campus despite the challenges they face.
“I know what it means to uphold the Muslim Jamaat on campus because I have been through it myself. Remain steadfast for the sake of Allah, for your efforts will never go unrewarded,” Sheikh Turay told the gathering.
In the female category, Isata Khalilu Mabinty Fornah, a second-year Political Science student in the Faculty of Social Sciences, emerged victorious after an impressive display of Quranic memorisation.
The male category was won by Amadu Tarawalie, a final-year Public Health student in the Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences, who also demonstrated exceptional mastery of the Holy Quran.
Speaking after the competition, the President of the EBKUST Muslim Jamaat, Lansana Dauda, congratulated all participants, especially the winners, while encouraging those who did not emerge victorious to remain committed.
He reminded them that every effort made in learning and memorising the Quran is rewarded by Allah, urging them to continue striving for excellence in future competitions.
The maiden competition was widely praised as a landmark initiative by the EBKUST Muslim Jamaat and is expected to become an annual event aimed at strengthening Islamic values, promoting Quranic literacy, and fostering unity among Muslim students on campus.
