SierraTec Secure Co. is redefining Sierra Leone’s agricultural landscape with a bold new vision for sustainable farming, following a major national recognition that solidified its leadership in the country’s drive toward food self-sufficiency.
The technology-driven agribusiness was recently honoured with a Presidential Certificate of Excellence from His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio during the World Food Day celebrations in Kambia District. The honour, awarded under the auspices of the Feed Salone initiative, recognized SierraTec’s innovative contributions to improving food production, empowering smallholder farmers, and promoting environmentally conscious farming systems.
For SierraTec, the award represents more than a ceremonial gesture—it affirms years of consistent investment, field innovation, and a strategic focus on local empowerment, particularly in the Bombali and Kambia districts, where the company’s operations have transformed farmlands and livelihoods.
President Bio, in his address, commended the company’s strong partnership with the government and its commitment to sustainable agriculture. He described SierraTec’s model as “a shining example of what public-private collaboration can achieve when technology, dedication, and national vision come together to feed a nation.”
Under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Sallieu Kanu, SierraTec has introduced a range of initiatives aimed at modernizing farming practices in rural communities. These include the use of mechanized farming equipment, improved seed varieties, and training programs for local farmers on climate-smart agricultural methods.
Speaking after receiving the award, Kanu expressed gratitude to the President and his administration for recognizing the company’s work. “This milestone is a reflection of our unwavering belief in Sierra Leone’s potential to feed itself,” he said. “Our dedicated staff and field workers deserve the highest praise—they are the backbone of this achievement.”
SierraTec’s impact on food security has been significant. Through strategic partnerships and modern production methods, the company has helped to reduce dependency on imported rice and grains—one of the government’s major policy goals under the Feed Salone program. The firm’s efforts have not only increased yields but also inspired a new generation of young people to view agriculture as a viable and profitable career path.
Beyond recognition, SierraTec is already looking ahead with ambitious expansion plans. The company intends to double its farming footprint from 2,500 to 5,000 hectares in the coming planting season. This expansion, supported by cutting-edge machinery for land preparation, rice broadcasting, harvesting, and processing, is expected to further boost local production capacity and contribute to rural job creation.
Kanu emphasized that SierraTec’s long-term goal is to create a sustainable agricultural ecosystem where productivity and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. “We are building a model that combines innovation with inclusivity,” he noted. “Our approach ensures that farmers, communities, and the nation as a whole benefit from every seed planted.”
With its progressive vision and growing influence, SierraTec stands at the forefront of Sierra Leone’s agricultural transformation. Its fusion of technology, sustainability, and community empowerment has positioned it not only as a trusted partner of the government but also as a symbol of what private enterprise can achieve in advancing national development.
As SierraTec continues to expand operations and strengthen food systems across the country, its example offers a glimpse into a future where Sierra Leone’s fields thrive—not through aid, but through innovation, commitment, and homegrown excellence.
