Indigo Centre for Justice Empowering Youth and Building Stronger Communities

Dear Supporters and Community Members

We’re excited to share the latest updates on our recent initiatives, all aimed at empowering youth, promoting justice, and strengthening our communities. At ICJ, we are committed to empowering individuals and fostering equality in every community. As we continue to support and advocate for justice, we celebrate the strength and resilience of women everywhere.

Through our programs and partnerships, we aim to create lasting change, ensuring that every voice is heard and every individual has the opportunity to thrive. Together, we can build a future where justice, equality, and empowerment are a reality for all.

Thank you for being an essential part of this journey.

Empowering Students

As part of our youth outreach efforts, we had the privilege of visiting Henry Fergusson Secondary School and Sulimania Primary School to engage students in meaningful discussions on:

– Choosing Friends Wisely – Understanding the power of positive influences.

– Reasons to Work Hard in School – Encouraging dedication and perseverance.

– Living Responsibly – Making smart choices for a brighter future.

The students were eager participants, and teachers appreciated the reinforcement of their daily lessons. We believe we’ve planted a seed, and we’re excited to nurture it! Our next step? Establishing school clubs in both schools to provide students with a space for open dialogue, mentorship, and counseling opportunities.

TABLE TALK

We also hosted a powerful roundtable discussion with the Union of Clubs in Fourah Bay Community and local leaders, tackling the pressing issue of drug abuse.

💡 The conversation brought fresh perspectives and innovative ideas on how to address this crisis.

key takeaway? Government intervention must increase to combat the far-reaching and often fatal consequences of drug use in Sierra Leone.

BUILDING COMMUNITY SPIRIT: FRIENDLY FOOTBALL GALA

In the spirit of teamwork and togetherness, we organized a fun-filled 6-team football gala bringing together local youth and members of the legal community. But this wasn’t just about the game—it was about laughter, camaraderie, and good vibes all around! With background music and anti-drug messages blasting from the speakers, players gave it their all while the crowd cheered them on.It was a day of goals, great sportsmanship, and plenty of smiles—just the way we like it!

LOVE IN LOCKDOWN: INDIGO’S OUTREACH TO YOUNG HEARTS IN DETENTION”

On Valentine’s Day 2025, the Indigo Center for Justice visited the Juvenile Detention Centre as part of its ongoing commitment to youth rehabilitation and support. The visit was an opportunity to show love, offer encouragement, and remind the young inmates that their lives still hold value and promise.

The team engaged the boys in motivational talks and open conversations, encouraging them to reflect on their experiences and embrace the possibility of change. The atmosphere was warm and open, with several inmates courageously sharing their stories, hopes, and regrets. These interactions created a deep sense of connection and empathy, both for the visitors and the youths.

As part of the outreach, Indigo presented food items, survival kits, and drinks. Thanks to the kind support of Shakerndas and Sons, food items were donated, adding joy and nourishment to the occasion. Each gesture, whether big or small, helped uplift the spirits of the inmates and reminded them they are not forgotten.

The visit was well received by the facility’s staff and left a lasting impact on the boys. It was a clear message that all is not lost, and that second chances are real and within reach. Valentine’s Day became a day of love, hope, and renewed purpose.

Indigo remains committed to supporting young people in difficult circumstances and continues to advocate for compassion and restorative justice.

WOMEN’S DAY 2025: EMPOWERING YOUNG WOMEN AT YWCA VOCATIONAL INSTITUTE

On International Women’s Day 2025, the YWCA Vocational Institute hosted an inspiring Open Day and Graduation Ceremony, celebrating the remarkable talents of its young women. The event featured a vibrant showcase of skills, including handwork, cooking, singing, and drama, reflecting the dedication and creativity of the students.

ICJ’s Board Chairperson, Mrs. Winifred Jones, delivered an empowering speech, focusing on this year’s theme, “Equality and Empowerment.” She encouraged the students to persevere through challenges, highlighting that being self-reliant and independent are key steps in the fight against injustice and inequality.

The event was a beautiful reminder of the strength and potential of women, inspiring all to continue striving for equality and empowerment in every aspect of life.
