Bottom United Family Bakery Opens in Fourah Bay Community
By Mackie M. Jalloh
Fourah Bay has proudly welcomed one of its most remarkable additions yet — the Bottom United Family Bakery, officially opened on Sunday, August 31, 2025. The bakery, owned by a true son of the soil, Abu Gibril Cole, is already making waves as one of the largest and most promising bakeries in the community.
This initiative goes far beyond bread and cakes; it is a bold statement of vision, love, and dedication to both Fourah Bay and Sierra Leone at large. Abu Gibril Cole has not only invested in building a modern bakery but has also committed himself to empowering young people in the community. The bakery is open to all youths who are willing and ready to learn the art of baking — completely free of charge. This training opportunity, coupled with job creation, marks a turning point for many young people who have long yearned for meaningful employment and skills.
Speaking with the CEO Abu Gibril Cole said: “This bakery is not just about baking bread or cakes; it’s about creating opportunities, empowering our youths, and giving Fourah Bay something we can all be proud of. My dream is for this bakery to feed not just this community but the whole of Freetown and beyond.”
Inside the bakery, a variety of delicious products are already winning hearts: birthday cakes, banana bread, rich cake, bounce, meat pie, and sausage rolls etc. These are made with precision, care, and love — qualities that reflect the CEO’s own dedication. From households to large gatherings, the bakery caters for all occasions: Birthdays, naming ceremonies, funerals, charity (Sara), 40 days, and vigils etc.
The Bakery Manager, Salifu, who has vast experience in baking and has helped many young people acquire skills and secure employment, also shared his joy. He said: “I want to extend my deepest gratitude to our CEO, Mr. Abu Gibril Cole, for such a wonderful initiative. This bakery is not just here to serve Fourah Bay, but across the country. My doors are open to any youth who is ready to learn and work hard. I strongly encourage young people in Fourah Bay to take advantage of this opportunity, because this is how we build both skills and livelihoods.”
Community members have described Abu Gibril Cole as “a blessing to Fourah Bay,” praising his leadership and generosity. His vision to uplift his people through both service and empowerment shows a deep commitment to giving back. For many, he is not just the CEO of a bakery but a role model who has shown what it means to lead with purpose.
In a city where opportunities are often scarce, the Bottom United Family Bakery stands as a shining example of how one man’s dream can transform into a community’s victory. The bakery is now a hub for both sustenance and hope — blending quality food with opportunities for growth.
